The North American Brewer’s Association (NABA) has the second biggest beer competition in North America (after the Great American Beer Festival) and we won 4 MEDALS!!!!!

GOLD – Zonker Stout

BRONZE – Hoback Hefeweisen and Coffee Milk Stout

SILVER – Jenny Lake Lager

Every year, all the brewers drive up to Idaho Falls to judge for the beer competition (we can only judge the categories that we did not enter beer into) and to get ready for judging, we did some mock judging here at Snake River Brewing.

As a judge, you taste anywhere from 6 to 12 beers of one style. You note as much about them as you can- color, clarity, aroma, taste, bitterness, carbonation, alcohol, balance, drinkability, and most importantly how close to style is it. So if you’re judging an American Pale Ale category and you drink the most delicious IPA you have ever had, you would give it bad marks for being “not true to style.”

We all love judging that competition- it’s an excuse to get out of town and mingle with other brewers from all over the country and drink beer! Plus, it helps to refine our own palates, which benefits our own beer.

Cheers, Idaho Falls and NABA!
