After 17 years at Snake River Brewing, we are saying farewell to our Head Brewer, Cory BuenningCory’s last shift at the Brew Pub will be Friday January 22, and we will definitely send him out with a bang (and possibly some shenanigans).  Stop in to have one last pint with him before he moves to Kentucky to start his own brewery!!

Rudy Borrego, who has been a brewer here for over 16 years, will be filling Cory’s shoes as our new Head Brewer. He will continue brewing up our award winning beer and new beers!

Rudy discovered craft (good) beer when he first went to college. (I was surprised there WAS craft beer that long ago…) He started home brewing shortly thereafter as an economical way to drink good beer and fell in love with the craft of brewing. He moved to Jackson in the middle of winter after graduating college with a computer science degree. He worked as a computer programmer for Teton Data Systems before moving on to SRB.  In Rudy’s own words, “Sitting in front of a terminal was getting old, and after a particularly bad morning in the office, I decided to go to the pub for lunch.  I asked Hadley Cox, a brewer at the time, if there were any openings in the brewery.  He was leaving the pub and Jackson in September, so he introduced me to Chris and a few weeks later I was hired.” Rudy started at SRB on August 1, 1999 and has been here ever since!

Rudy’s favorite part of brewing is mashing in- he loves the smell.  His favorite beers to brew and drink are the Light Lagers we are known for brewing at SRB, especially his signature brew, the Blank Czech Pilsner.
Besides being a great brewer, Rudy is also an excellent potter! He teaches pottery at the Art Association and opened up his classroom to locals to make all the tiles that line the pub. Each one of those tiles was made by people who love the pub- regulars, locals, employees! Rudy, his wife Shannon (the high school art teacher), and their daughter Mira often have dinner here on busy nights- and with a 6 year old, they are always pretty busy! Be sure to say hello and congratulations to Rudy next time you see him at the pub!
young Rudy!

young Rudy without a beard! Ah!

Cory got into beer by home brewing in Boulder, CO around 1993.  His first brewery job was at Tommy Knockers in Idaho Springs, CO in 1996. Cory first came to Jackson Hole for a Brew Fest through Tommy Knockers and fell in love with the hunting, fishing, and skiing here. He started at SRB in September 1997 as an assistant brewer. When Chris, our former Head Brewer, moved on to be Director of Brewing Operations, Cory stepped into the Brew Master position and has been doing it ever since. His favorite part of brewing is “quality control”… his favorite beers to brew and drink are German Lagers and IPA’s.
look at all those medals!

   Cory likes winning medals!

He and his wife, Kelly, are moving to Louisville, KY to open a brewery/music venue with his brother in-law. He will have a significant amount of ownership, and that is a big part of why he is going. In Cory’s own words- “I cannot pass up an opportunity to own my own brewery.  I love Jackson, but am excited for a new adventure. I will really miss Wyoming elk archery season, but the people I have met over the last 18 years are what I will miss the most.”
